January 14 - 18, 2019

We had a great first week back!! Clubs, practices, and rehearsals are back in full swing - there is lots of excitement about good things for 2019.  Our theme at River Oaks is ‘Make a Difference’ so we’ve been focusing on doing things that make a difference. Last week our challenge was to say hi to someone we don’t normally say hi to and see what a difference that makes to our school.  There will be another ‘Make a Difference’ challenge coming up this week - ask your child(ren) what it is on Monday!

For those families involved with our upcoming Beauty and the Beast production, here is a link to the website with all kinds of important information: Check out our website for more info: https://sites.google.com/hdsb.ca/ropsbeautyandthebeast/home

This Week at River Oaks

December 17-21, 2018

What a wonderful week of music we enjoyed last week! Thank you to families and friends for sharing in the celebrations with us!

The Giving Tree has been an incredible success! River Oaks is a community that demonstrates everyday how to make a positive difference for others by acts of kindness and generosity. Thank you!!!

Here is a very important message regarding the Boundary Review meeting in the New Year:

"At the September 19, 2018 HDSB meeting, the Trustees passed a motion to start the process for a new boundary for the new North East Oakville #2 Public School. As such, representatives from our School Council along with interested members of our school community have been engaged in planning sessions to determine the new boundaries once NE #2 is built. On Thursday January 10th, 2019 there will be a public consultation meeting to gather feedback from the community, if you are interested in attending the meeting it will be held at White Oaks Secondary School from 7 - 9pm. Your interest and participation will be greatly appreciated as decisions made will affect us all. If you have any questions please check out the following link:

The sounds of the Holiday Concert have been heard throughout the week as students have been practising for On With the Snow!  We’re going to have 3 evenings of incredible music this coming week!! Please see the instructions sent home in a separate message for performers.  We will have limited seating for community members who wish to come during the day to watch our dress rehearsals. A reminder that you will need to park off site and walk over. When you’re in the school, please check out the Lost and Found, just outside the Library!

You will also find some bins outside the Library - we want to fill them with nonperishable food items!

This is the last week for our ‘Giving Tree’ by the Main Office - thank you to our School Council for taking this on!  If you would like to be part of the Giving Tree, please take a paper ornament or, better yet, take a picture and leave the ornament for someone else to take, and purchase a gift card for that store.  Please bring the gift card to the office by December 14, with the amount of the gift card noted. Thank you for your generosity!!

Here is a message from our School Council:

It's official! Our direct donation campaign has ended and we have  hit our goal of $5,000. We raised $5,103 to be exact. From all of us on the ROPS School Council and our school administration, we sincerely thank you for your generosity. The funds raised will be put forward this year to elevate the learning journey of all our students.

The kids also thank you in advance for their PJ day, hat day, and most of all, extended recess!

We will be contacting the lucky winners of the draw directly and remember, we will always and at any time accept donations. You simply follow the same process as we set out during the fundraiser.

September 2018 Welcome to River Oaks

posted Sep 5, 2018, 1:47 PM by Lois Braunberger   [ updated Sep 5, 2018, 1:47 PM ]

Welcome To River Oaks Public School

I would like to welcome students and parents to a new year at River Oaks Public School. We are especially excited to welcome several new families to our wonderful school community this year!

At River Oaks we recognize that it takes a community to create the optimal learning environment for your children. The full cooperation of parents, teachers, and other individuals is required for students to experience success. When the school, home and community work together our students will be able to reach their full potential. The best way to ensure this cooperation is through regular open communication. As we have moved away from paper agendas, your child’s teacher will be in touch with you about how regular communication will happen.

Our school is a Tribes school. Tribes is a process that creates a culture which maximizes learning and human development. In our school, students, staff, and the community commit to using these positive agreements:

  • Attentive Listening

  • Appreciation/No Put-downs

  • Right to Pass/Responsibility to Participate

  • Mutual Respect

The practice of these agreements has become an important part of our caring school community climate and we hope that you will reinforce them at home.

The vision of River Oaks continues to focus on the following:

  • Enriching student talents through co-curriculars

  • Improving students’ learning and attitudes to health active living

  • A School Council involved in climate building and support to students and staff

  • A committed and active parent volunteer group

  • A caring, safe and positive environment

  • Students who care about learning and strive to do their best!

We look forward to continuing to build on our existing traditions as well as exploring whatever new ideas will enrich our students’ growth academically, emotionally and socially. Your support is critical to your child’s success and we invite you to get involved in school life at River Oaks. I encourage you to join School Council or get involved as a volunteer in the many activities that we will have throughout the year. Watch our school website at http://riv.hdsb.ca for the latest updates.

Yours truly,

Lois Braunberger

Principal
