This Week at River Oaks

We will be sharing some important information about the staffing changes at River Oaks for the next school year. Look for that message Tuesday afternoon!

Thank you one last time to all the families that supported Musical Theatre at River Oaks this year. Here is the link to Beauty and the Beast:

https://drive.google.com/a/hdsb.ca/file/d/1lw2FQEoltZ5AA3DwM4VWa_83zY-H8xlt/view?usp=drivesdk

A very important message from our Teacher Librarian, Mr. J:

This year at River Oaks, we'll be trying out a Summer Reading Program! Students can take out 10 books for the summer. Books will be borrowed starting Tuesday June 18 and returned in September. Obviously this isn't a fit for all students as some will be traveling, some will be visiting the public library, etc.

For students who are interested, they must have all their previous books returned and any lost books must be replaced or paid for. Parents and the student need to sign up using the attached form (I have copies in the library as well). Students in grades K to 2 are asked to come in with a parent to take out their 10 books (bring a sturdy bag or bin!). Parents can come in from 7:45-8:50 each day or email Mr. J for a better time fit - johnstonma@hdsb.ca

Older students can check out their 10 books during open library (first 25 minutes of the school day each day). Please send students with a sturdy bag or bin if they are participating. We can store the books in the library until the end of the day if needed.

Please take good care of your books and hopefully this will be a new tradition at River Oaks! For all students, there's also a summer reading bingo that can be completed as part of the program or just with your own books to keep inspiring a love of reading.

Have a great summer and take some time to read a nice book in the sun or shade!

This Week at River Oaks

Welcome to May - it’s hard to believe that we’re in May already but we welcome the warmer weather!

We had a great time celebrating International Day of Dance over 3 days as each class in the school spent some ‘grooving’ with Danny from Experience Groove.  This is the feedback we received about our wonderful school community: ALL of the students (and staff!) amazed us with their open minds, creative spirits and expressive enthusiasm while on the Groove dance floor.

This coming week we have our Awards Assembly (Wednesday) and Burgundy and Grey Day (Thursday) which is our track and field day for Grades 3-8, We use these results to form our track and field teams to compete for River Oaks later in the month. Thank you to School Council for all their work on another successful Multicultural Evening!!
