April 8-12,  2019

This Week at River Oaks

Thank you to Mr. McKernan, Mme Willis, Ms. Tough for taking our Junior and Senior Robotics teams to this year’s Halton Skills Competition at Craig Kielburger Secondary School on April 2, 2019.  Our Junior and Senior Vex IQ teams both showed teamwork, technological problem solving and leadership skills. The Junior team placed 11th overall, and our Senior team placed 5th. Our Senior Vex EDR team had a unique situation where they did not know their challenge until they arrived at the competition.  The team stepped up and mastered the challenge, placing 5th out of 25 schools! Congratulations to all Robotics teams.

And thank you to Mr. Flindall for taking our ROPS Car Club the Halton Skills Competition.  They earned a GOLD medal in all three events - Distance, obstacle course and presentation. Great job team!

Class Building Message: It’s getting to be that time where we begin thinking about class placements for next year.  If you would like to make requests, please email Lois or Trixie, at braunbergerl@hdsb.ca or vasilakost@hdsb.ca

Multicultural Day: One of the things we love most about our community is its diversity! On Thursday April 25, we will specially celebrate that diversity.  We encourage students and staff to wear cultural or traditional clothing that day. The celebration will continue into the evening when we have our second Multicultural Evening.

River Oaks Public School and its School Council would like to invite all families and friends to take part in the River Oaks Multicultural Night. We need your help to bring the students some first-hand knowledge of the various cultures represented at our school and the broader community. The goal of this event is to celebrate our cultural diversity, embrace our differences, and have fun learning about the various cultures found in our own community.
Event date: April 25th, 6:00 PM Set up. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Event ends 8:00 PM.
Location: River Oaks Public School Gym
Students and their families attending will enjoy food, music, crafts, games and more! We hope to provide a unique opportunity for all families to get together and learn from each other. You can participate by hosting a table, volunteering or simply attending.

Please use the link below to participate. This form will close for entries on April 11th. Please let us know as soon as you can so we can reserve a table for you!
