We are so glad to be starting another school year with all of you, and what a school year it will be! We are excited to have our students back with us in person and remotely. We are maintaining our COVID-19 protocols and know that your children will continue to do an

amazing job with our routines and procedures.

Our school hours are as follows:

8:30 - Supervision begins

8:45 - Entry Bell

10:25 - 11:05 - First Nutrition Break

12:45 - 1:25 - Second Nutrition Break

3:05 - Dismissal Bell

3:20 - Supervision ends

On Friday September 3rd you will receive an email notifying you of your child’s teacher and homeroom. Please DO NOT call the school to inquire about class placements. Class lists will NOT be posted on the front of the school or posted on the website.

**NEW THIS YEAR** For the first two weeks of school, families will be completing a COVID screening daily for their child. An email explaining this process will be sent on THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 2nd. Please read this email carefully!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: Our first day of school is Tuesday September 7th. Your child’s teacher will be out at their designated location at 8:30 am. Each teacher will have a sign with THEIR NAME and CLASS CODE on it, so that you and your children can identify them. Mrs. Wilson and Ms. Vasilakos along with Teachers, Support Staff and E.A.s will be circulating the playground to assist you and your children as well.

KINDERGARTEN - KF1, KF2 & KF3 New Pen, KF4 & KF5 Old Pen

MORNING ENTRY HANGOUTS: For the first two weeks of the school year, we are going to have students have a consistent morning location to “hang out” until the bell rings and entry is permitted. This location will also be where your children will meet their teachers on the first day of school, September 7th.. Our Supervisors will be outside as well to direct students in as the bell rings, and to provide HAND SANITIZER as they enter the school. After these first two weeks, we will have gradual entry. Starting at 8:30 every morning, students will be permitted to come directly into the school, using the back doors. This will give students an opportunity to go to their lockers and not hang out on the hard top or playground area.

MASKS: Mask wearing is now MANDATORY for all students, Kindergarten to Grade 8. Please ensure that you are sending your child to school with multiple masks so that they can change a mask that becomes dirty or lost. Students will NOT be required to wear masks at recess and will be cohorting with their classmates in recess zones during this time.

Parents are also MANDATED to wear a mask while on school grounds, this includes when you are dropping off and picking up your children.

HAND HYGIENE: Students will be required to sanitize or wash their hands throughout the day. Material sharing is permitted this year within the classroom, however, we are still providing students with a bin filled with their own school supplies to minimize contact. Hand sanitizer is provided by the board. You may send your children with their own sanitizer, however, we ask that it’s scent free.

BUSING: As of Friday September 3rd you will be able to view your child’s bus seat assignment on

LUNCH/FOOD: Please remember that for the safety of everyone, we are a NUT FREE school. All food garbage from snacks and lunches will be coming home to reduce our school garbage and recycling.

MEDICAL INFORMATION: If your child's Epi-Pen was sent home at the end of the year or has expired, please send in an extra one to be stored in the office (in addition to the one your child will be carrying). If Mrs. Wilson sent you the Annual Review of Medical Information form in the spring, please ensure you have returned it. If your child has a life threatening allergy and you have not informed the school yet, please email Mrs. Wilson at

SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Students will be provided with a personal bin of supplies to begin the school year. At this time Public Health has said that sharing of supplies is permitted (chromebooks, textbooks, etc…).

LOCKERS: Lockers will be assigned to students this year, and are permitted to share lockers as well. Please DO NOT send your child to school with a lock. Our students do not need to lock their lockers.

REMOTE LEARNERS: We have two Remote Learning classrooms housed in our school this year, Grade 4 & Grade 6. If you require a chromebook, please email Ms. Vasilakos at

You will be given a date and time to pick up the chromebook.

PHONES: Personal cell phones are not normally permitted in the school. You may, however, choose to send your child to school with a phone as this will be an option for the Daily Screening protocol. Students will then be advised to leave their cell phones in their lockers for the duration of the day.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to support you.

We want the transition back to school to be a safe and positive experience for everyone!

We can’t wait to see you all on September 7th.

Be well,

The River Oaks Staff
