School Council
Volunteering at River Oaks
Volunteers are a very important part of our school community. We have many great parents who spend time volunteering in our school. The benefits that come from spending time within your child's school are overwhelming. It is proven that your involvement reinforces that education is important. Children also learn from good role models and it even helps increase your child's participation in class. When you spend time volunteering you become more aware of school rules, special events and programs within the school. This tends to promote conversation with your child. We always welcome new (and returning) volunteers! Please consider donating some of your time in the school this year.
School Council Meetings:
All parents/guardians are welcome to attend School Council meetings. All of our School Council meeting will be a hybrid, with both in person and Google Meet being offered. Please find the link attached to the email reminder sent by Ms. Vasilakos the day of the meeting.
We usually meet once a month throughout the school year to do our part in helping to improve student achievement. What does that mean? Through the Council, we hope to involve and engage as many parents as possible in their children's education. How do we do it? Just ask or better yet, please join us at a meeting. You can also join our mailing list using the contact information below. You can, of course, unsubscribe at any time.
Confirmed meeting dates will be added to the School Calendar found on the ROPS website, and in the River Oaks Weekly Update.
If you have any questions, suggestions or comments? Please contact our School Council Co-Chairs Brenda Cohen & Rachel Cameron at ropscouncil@gmail.com

Police Checks
As of September 6, 2016, residents of Halton aged 21 and older can apply for Police Information Checks and Police Vulnerable Sector Checks for employment and volunteer purposes online 24 hours a day, seven days a week without having to attend one of our police locations.
Here’s how it works:
Visit our website: www.haltonpolice.ca. Click on Services -> Police Record Checks.
Complete each field of the application form. To verify your identity, you will be asked a series of authentication questions based on your personal credit file. Answers to the questions are timed to ensure added security and privacy.
In addition to the standard $25.00 processing fee, a convenience charge of $9.95 plus HST will be added to each Police Record Check.
If there are no concerns or follow-up required, the requested police screening documents will be mailed directly to you.
Please note: A police check is required for all volunteers and must include a vulnerable sector screening.
